Here you will find information about the labour disruption that began on Monday, April 13, 2026 at 7 a.m. at eligible, CUPE-represented long term care homes. Throughout this time, the wellbeing, safety, and daily comfort of residents remain at the heart of everything we do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Essential Services Agreements (ESAs) are in place, and we continue to work closely and collaboratively with all parties to ensure care remains consistent and uninterrupted. Our teams are prepared and deeply committed to creating a calm, supportive environment for every resident during this period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

JUNE 8, 2026<\/h6>\n\n\n\n

On Saturday, June 6, we received some encouraging news. CUPE\u00a0and the Nova Scotia government reached a tentative agreement. Union members will\u00a0now\u00a0be given the opportunity to vote with the lead table employer,\u00a0Saint\u00a0Vincent\u2019s Nursing Home, voting first. If ratified, the\u00a0remainder\u00a0of striking CUPE homes\u00a0can vote to accept the\u00a0agreement. In the meantime, our teams are working together with the\u00a0union to support a safe and timely return to work for team members as soon as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MAY 29, 2026<\/h6>\n\n\n\n

The Nova Scotia government and CUPE returned to the bargaining table on May 27, 2026. Unfortunately, those discussions did not result in a tentative agreement. This continues to be a difficult and emotional time for everyone affected across these communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While service reductions remain in place under the Essential Services Agreements, we have been able to bring additional team members back to work as resident needs continue to evolve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We remain hopeful that a resolution will be reached soon so teams can come back together, and residents have access to the full staffing complement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We continue to work under the Essential Services Agreement during the current labour disruption, with resident safety as our highest priority. Our teams are monitoring resident needs closely, making adjustments where needed, and maintaining essential care and supports. We remain committed to providing a safe, supportive environment for residents and keeping families informed as updates become available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last week we shared an overview of the Essential Services Agreement (ESA) and the reduction in services at our home with residents and families.  We gained valuable feedback and we encouraged residents and family members to ask questions through our form<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We also encourage families to continue to visit as much as possible and keep an open dialogue with our teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

APRIL 24, 2026<\/h6>\n\n\n\n

We’re now entering the 12th<\/sup> day of the CUPE labour disruption impacting six of our nursing homes in Nova Scotia. This is a challenging time for everyone involved. Our communities are operating differently under essential services agreements (ESAs), but all team members remain focused on keeping residents safe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We recognize that, under the ESA, services may take longer than usual and that some programming has been temporarily adjusted or even eliminated. Even so, our teams are working with focus and compassion guided by the ESA to maintain a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for every resident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We also want to acknowledge the deep commitment of our team members. This is a complex and emotional time for employees, residents, and families alike, but our shared focus remains clear: ensuring the safety of those entrusted to our care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Update on Labour Disruption at Our Long Term Care Homes<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The labour disruption that began on Monday, April 13, 2026 at 7 a.m. continues at six of our CUPE\u2011represented long term care homes. We recognize how challenging and emotional this situation is for residents, families, and team members. This is a difficult period for everyone, and we appreciate your patience and cooperation as we navigate it together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Resident wellbeing and safety remain our top priority throughout this disruption. Essential Services Agreements (ESAs) are in place, and we are working closely with all parties to keep care consistent and uninterrupted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
