General Manager, Arborstone Enhanced Care<\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Originally from Westville, Nova Scotia, Michelle Clark was inspired to pursue a career in nursing at a young age. \u201cAs a child, I spent time in hospital as a patient,\u201d she says. \u201cI believe that experience made me want to be a nurse and provide excellent care to those in need.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Michelle completed her studies at Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC)<\/a>, first becoming a Continuing Care Assistant (CCA) and then training as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Since 2009, Michelle has been a valued member of the Shannex team in various roles with increasing responsibility. \u201cAs a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), I have been given opportunities that have promoted my professional development,\u201d she says, reflecting on her early days with the Shannex. Michelle began her career in the Annapolis Valley South Shore region, working as a front-line LPN in several Shannex nursing homes before joining Arborstone<\/a> as Community Manager and Education Coordinator. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Michelle, working in long term care is often overlooked as a specialty, especially given Canada\u2019s aging population. \u201cWorking in long term care as a nurse is a specialty,\u201d she says. \u201cYou\u2019re not only providing quality care but creating quality of life. Knowing I have a positive impact on residents\u2019 lives is so rewarding.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2019, Michelle continued her leadership journey as the Health Services Manager at Parkland<\/a> at the Gardens, a retirement living community in downtown Halifax. There, Michelle excelled in her role, helping residents maintain independence and social connection while accessing a range of supports and care. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When the opportunity to rejoin the team at Arborstone was shared, Michelle decided to return to her roots in long term care. She became General Manager in September 2022 and has continued her work as a passionate and dedicated leader. \u201cThe most rewarding part of my role is supporting and working alongside the team to provide service excellence to residents in our care, their families and our staff.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those who know Michelle describe her as thoughtful, caring and warm, with a natural talent of helping others navigate the fast pace of life. At home, Michelle can often be found spending time with her husband, three children and her first grandchild. She also enjoys relaxing while crafting or watching a hockey game\u2014especially those featuring her family\u2019s live-in Junior A hockey billet. \u201cI have built a career and a life that I\u2019m proud of,\u201d she says. \u201cThe past 13 years have been nothing short of amazing.\u201d  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
