Heart disease, also known as \u201cischemic heart disease,\u201d or \u201ccoronary heart disease,\u201d is the buildup of plaque in the heart arteries that can lead to heart attack, heart failure or death. If you have diabetes, high cholesterol or high blood pressure, you may be at higher risk of developing heart disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fortunately, more and more Canadians are learning how to prevent and manage heart disease and we are seeing improvements in the number diagnosed and the number dying from the disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information on heart health visit: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heartandstroke.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">heartandstroke.ca<\/a> or speak with your healthcare provider.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tips to keep your heart healthy:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Limit alcohol <\/strong>\u2013 less than three drinks per week.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Reduce stress<\/strong> \u2013 read a book, breathing exercises.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Be active <\/strong>\u2013 talk to your healthcare provider to determine what exercises are safe.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Eat nutritious foods<\/strong> \u2013 following Canada\u2019s Food Guide is an easy way to learn what types of food you should be eating.
