He later became an equipment supervisor, which allowed him to spend more time with his family.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nearing retirement, Ken found himself considering a new hobby. \u201cI told my wife if I\u2019m going to retire, I\u2019ve got to have something to do, so I bought a used pool table,\u201d he recalls. \u201cI\u2019ve had that pool table for about nine years, but I can\u2019t remember ever playing pool before that.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When Ken sold his home, finding a community of caring people and activities was important. He found it, along with new friends like Monique, at Parkland.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d see Ken playing pool, so we started playing together,\u201d says Monique, a Wellness Coach. \u201cI enjoy learning the different angles and the competition. Making big shots by accident is always exciting.\u201d &nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<br>As a Wellness Coach, Monique plans social activities and exercise classes for residents and surprisingly never played pool before meeting Ken. &nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<br>\u201cShe has some real good games and some real poor ones\u2014she\u2019s a good sport,\u201d Ken says. \u201cWhen you have people like Monique around, that keeps people happy,\u201d he adds. \u201cTo live here, you\u2019re not alone anymore and that\u2019s the one thing I really like about it\u2014the people that live here are your family.\u201d &nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<br>When asked to describe Ken, Monique pauses with evident admiration. \u201cHe\u2019s always so positive,\u201d she says. \u201cHe\u2019s very kind,\u201d says Monique.
