{"id":20373,"date":"2023-11-09T15:15:00","date_gmt":"2023-11-09T19:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shannex.com\/?p=20373"},"modified":"2023-11-20T15:37:47","modified_gmt":"2023-11-20T19:37:47","slug":"an-arborstone-love-story-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shannex.com\/fr\/connections-magazine\/fall-2023\/an-arborstone-love-story-2\/","title":{"rendered":"An Arborstone Love Story"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Arborsone Enhanced Care<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p>On any given day, you\u2019ll find a long list of activities underway&nbsp;at <a href=\"https:\/\/shannex.com\/location\/arborstone-enhanced-care\/\">Arborstone Enhanced Care<\/a> in Halifax, NS, but on Friday,&nbsp;July 21<sup>st<\/sup>, there was only one event everyone was looking&nbsp;forward to: Darlene and Joey\u2019s wedding.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Darlene says she wasn\u2019t looking for love when she moved&nbsp;into the Arborstone in 2013. Twice married before, she was&nbsp;settling into her new home and adjusting to living with a&nbsp;disability after a stroke. When Joey moved in a few years&nbsp;later, the pair fell into an easy friendship, and 12 months&nbsp;after that, they were inseparable.&nbsp;\u201cHe\u2019s my smile in the morning and my smile at night,\u201d&nbsp;Darlene shared.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFirst thing I do \u2013 as soon as I get up in the morning is give&nbsp;Darlene a kiss. Then I get my things together,\u201d Joey said,&nbsp;echoing her sentiment.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On their wedding day, the community was a hive of activity.\u201cThis is our residents\u2019 home \u2013 it\u2019s their neighbourhood, their&nbsp;community. It\u2019s where they create memories and lasting&nbsp;friendships,\u201d said General Manager Michelle Clark. \u201cIt\u2019s&nbsp;important that we create a safe space for them to live well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There were few dry eyes when the bride glided down the aisle in a&nbsp;wedding dress donated by Michelle while Music Therapist Erik&nbsp;Skinner sang the bride\u2019s favourite song, \u201cKeeper of the Stars.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aborstone Hospitality Manager Derek Botma was Joey\u2019s best man,&nbsp;while Sasha Brooks and Kayleena Willis, Darlene\u2019s favourite&nbsp;Continuing Care Assistants, were her attendants.&nbsp;\u201cI was the maid of honour, and I took it very seriously,\u201d Sasha said.&nbsp;Later, Erik sang a duet with Community Manager Gabby Gaspar as&nbsp;Darlene and Joey began their life together as husband and wife.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re really happy here at Arborstone.&nbsp;They treat us so well; we\u2019re all a family,\u201d\u201cAnd now, we\u2019re looking forward to just&nbsp;spending the rest of our lives together.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Editor&#8217;s note:<\/strong> Much consideration and care went into Joey and Darlene\u2019s special day. While not mentioned in the&nbsp;story, there were many other Arborstone team members and residents who played a direct role in the wedding,&nbsp;including Katie Jessome, the officiant; resident Terri
