Just three months ago, Anya and Anatoli Shutel arrived in Canada with their children, having fled the war in Israel. Despite the challenges of starting over, they came with open hearts and a strong desire to give back and find a sense of belonging in their new home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anatoli, a Critical Care nurse, and Anya, formerly an assistant director of Human Resources at a mental health hospital, bring not only years of professional experience but also deep compassion and a genuine care for others, qualities that reflect our values of compassion, honesty, professionalism, and safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since joining us as volunteers at Arborstone Enhanced Care<\/a>, what has meant the most to them is the human connection. Whether it\u2019s being greeted by name, receiving a warm thank you, or simply seeing a resident smile, these small moments have made a big impact. \u201cAll of this makes you feel more connected to the community,\u201d they say, \u201cand gives you the assurance that you are making a meaningful difference in people\u2019s lives.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even with the challenge of learning a new language, Anya and Anatoli approach every interaction as an opportunity to grow and connect. Volunteering has not only helped them feel at home, but it\u2019s deepened their desire to build their future here in Nova Scotia. \u201cWe\u2019re excited about the opportunity to become part of Nova Scotia\u2019s nursing family in the near future,\u201d they share with hope and enthusiasm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For them, volunteering has been more than just giving time. It\u2019s been about discovering community, finding purpose, and creating a ripple effect of kindness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anya and Anatoli’s story reminds us that when we give to others, we often receive even more in return, through connection, growth, and renewed hope.
