Every October, Nova Scotia honours the dedicated people who make continuing care possible. This year\u2019s theme, \u201cStanding Alongside Nova Scotians, with Compassion, Comfort & Care,\u201d serves as a reminder to celebrate the significant impact of Continuing Care Assistants (CCAs) across the province. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

To mark the occasion, we are sharing reflections from CCAs at Orchard Court<\/a>, Arborstone Enhanced Care<\/a>, and Maplestone Enhanced Care<\/a> about the most rewarding part of their roles as CCAs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Orchard Court<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

At Orchard Court<\/strong> in Kentville, Ola Asade<\/strong> recalls that the most rewarding part of his work is \u201csupporting residents with their daily needs while sharing kindness, patience, and respect. Seeing their comfort and smiles makes the work deeply rewarding.\u201d His colleague, Chelsea Hutchinson<\/strong>, agrees, noting that one of the most rewarding aspects of being a CCA is \u201cseeing someone smile and laugh when I\u2019ve done something to make them happy. Together, they show how simple gestures of compassion and care can light up a resident\u2019s day.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Haley Bruhm<\/strong>, building connections is the most fulfilling part of her role. \u201cI find chatting with our residents most rewarding. It’s nice to hear residents and family members express gratitude and see their smiles. We create such a bright spot in their lives, and they, in ours. I enjoy knowing I was a part of their daily life.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her colleague Ann Marie Martin<\/strong> emphasizes that the most rewarding aspect is: \u201cBeing there for residents and their families. Seeing their smiles makes my day brighter.\u201d In turn, for Carlie Misner<\/strong>, happiness comes from \u201cbringing joy to my residents daily, enriching their everyday lives.\u201d Similarly, for Daniel Itodo<\/strong>, the core of the role lies in \u201cthe sense of connection and purpose I get from the bonds and trust developed with the residents and their families.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Priyanka Sharma<\/strong> adds that what matters most is \u201cthe chance to make a meaningful difference in the daily lives of residents. Supporting them with care, compassion, and dignity brings me a sense of fulfillment.\u201d Finally, at Orchard Court, Megan Leslie<\/strong> emphasizes both pride and teamwork: \u201cI am so proud to be a CCA. I find the work very rewarding, and I love working side by side with all the members of our team.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Arborstone Enhanced Care <\/strong>in Halifax, CCAs express similar feelings of pride and fulfillment. For Sasha Brooks<\/strong>, joy is found in \u201cmaking residents smile. I love helping them with the things they can\u2019t do alone while still encouraging their independence and dignity.\u201d Kristine Hernandez<\/strong>\u202fpoints to appreciation as a source of strength: \u201cFeeling appreciated by both residents and families\u2026reminds me why this work matters. It\u2019s rewarding to know my efforts are valued.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is echoed by Delasi Sarpong<\/strong>\u202f, who reflects: \u201cWhen I know residents\u2019 needs are met and they are cared for, I feel a great sense of accomplishment and pride in my work.\u201d In the same way, for Louisa Ofeimun<\/strong>, the role is guided by compassion: \u201cHelping someone in need is everything to me. Love and compassion guide what I do, and being able to support others is the most fulfilling part of my role.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Maplestone Enhanced Care<\/strong>, in Halifax, Paula Andrea Paez Lencheros<\/strong> highlights the small but powerful ways residents express gratitude: \u201cIt\u2019s not just working with a great team, it\u2019s the people we care for at Maplestone who make the job truly meaningful. Even when they can\u2019t say \u2018thank you,\u2019 their hugs, smiles, and jokes say it all.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Across Orchard Court, Arborstone Enhanced Care, and Maplestone Enhanced Care, a common theme emerges: CCAs find fulfillment not only in the care they provide but also in the relationships they build, the appreciation they receive, and the joy of brightening someone\u2019s day.
