Recreation is a huge part of what keeps residents\u00a0happy and healthy, and\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0something they look forward to daily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A typical day for Kiara Lynch,&nbsp;Manager of&nbsp;Recreation and Volunteer Services&nbsp;at <a href=\"https:\/\/shannex.com\/location\/losier-hall\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/shannex.com\/location\/losier-hall\/\">Losier Hall<\/a>,&nbsp;Miramichi, N.B.,&nbsp;includes assessments, planning,&nbsp;leading activities, one-to-one visits, and adapting programs&nbsp;and activities&nbsp;to meet&nbsp;the&nbsp;individual&nbsp;needs&nbsp;of residents. Kiara&nbsp;sees it as&nbsp;meeting&nbsp;residents where they are and helping them feel engaged, valued, and supported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kiara consistently\u00a0works to make\u00a0a\u00a0lasting\u00a0difference,\u00a0increasing\u00a0social\u00a0connection, supporting\u00a0physical and cognitive health, and giving\u00a0residents a sense of accomplishment and belonging, while also allowing them to express themselves and continue doing things that bring meaning to their lives. Kiara says,\u00a0\u201cIt is so rewarding to find ways that someone can do something again that they previously loved.\u201d She strives to reconnect older adults with their past through\u00a0activities by creatively adapting the\u00a0programs for\u00a0each resident&#8217;s needs.\u00a0She says, \u201cWhat\u00a0always stands out most is seeing residents find themselves again through participation and social connection\u00a0and\u00a0watching someone light up during an activity that connects to their past interests or maybe even a new interest, whether it\u2019s music, exercising, or a simple shared conversation.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kiara is\u00a0focused on\u00a0making\u00a0programs\u00a0accessible\u00a0for\u00a0all residents.\u00a0\u201cI think it is so important to take the time to learn about each resident\u2019s interests, abilities, and life experiences to help support their\u00a0diverse needs and abilities,\u201d\u00a0she says.\u00a0Collaboration with residents, families, and the care team helps ensure programming supports both individual goals and overall wellbeing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since she was young,&nbsp;Kiara knew she wanted to work in therapeutic recreation. When she was in high school,&nbsp;one of her classes&nbsp;visited a local long term care home each week to volunteer. Kiara formed meaningful connections with residents&nbsp;and recognized how powerful activities and socialization are&nbsp;in enhancing the quality of life for older adults. Through the classwork, Kiara was inspired to pursue a career that would make a difference for older adults. She now hosts the same high school class at Losier Hall to continue inspiring students and supporting&nbsp;older adults.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kiara&nbsp;praises,&nbsp;\u201cTherapeutic&nbsp;recreation is an extremely rewarding field where small moments can have&nbsp;a big impact. If you enjoy building relationships and making a difference in people\u2019s lives, this career offers endless opportunities to do just that.\u201d&nbsp;She believes that if you lead with empathy, creativity, and patience, you can make a&nbsp;lasting&nbsp;difference in the lives of older adults.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u00a0appreciate\u00a0Kiara\u00a0and\u00a0all our therapeutic recreation team members\u00a0for\u00a0their commitment to enhancing the\u00a0lives\u00a0of\u00a0residents.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\"
