Mike Knowlton and Stephanie Miles knew they needed to do something to combat loneliness and hunger in seniors over the holidays. In 2022, Operation Kindness was born.
The initiative involves volunteers who travel to seniors living in Truro, and neighboring communities – Brookfield, Portapiqué, Debert, and Great Village. Each volunteer delivers food to make a meal and spends time socializing and spreading some holiday cheer. Often, they’re greeted with tears, prayers, gifts, or music.
In 2022, Operation Kindness fed 50. This past holiday season, the organization provided 125 meals.
In November, Operation Kindness was one of nine groups awarded a Shannex Cares Community Spirit Grant for their dedication to developing and improving seniors’ wellness, active living, and social connections.
“Operation Kindness would like to thank Shannex for the Community Spirit Grant, in which all funds were used to purchase the meals, we could not have done this amazing event without this support. Next year, we already have local businesses that have come forward wanting to help. By sharing this story, we hope to increase the number of meals delivered next year!” – Mike Knowlton and Stephanie Miles, Founders of Operations Kindness.
