Update on Labour Disruption at Our Long Term Care Homes
The labour disruption that began on Monday, April 13, 2026 at 7 a.m. continues at six of our CUPE‑represented long term care homes. We recognize how challenging and emotional this situation is for residents, families, and team members. This is a difficult period for everyone, and we appreciate your patience and cooperation as we navigate it together.
Resident wellbeing and safety remain our top priority throughout this disruption. Essential Services Agreements (ESAs) are in place, and we are working closely with all parties to keep care consistent and uninterrupted.

All CUPE long term care employees are participating in this strike. For Shannex, that means employees located at Maplestone, Ryan Hall, Bissett Court, Glasgow Hall, Celtic Court, and Harbourstone.
No. Only CUPE union members are striking.
Each striking home has an Essential Services and Community Services Agreement (ESA) which is a public document signed by the operator and CUPE unique to each site. ESAs are part of Nova Scotia legislation in accordance with the Essential Health and Community Services Act to ensure the continued provision of essential health services in the event of a strike. In accordance with the act, identified essential service union and non-union employees will continue to work over the duration of any labour disruptions.
