This February, we are celebrating National Therapeutic Recreation Month, a perfect time to recognize the meaningful work our recreation teams do every day. At Pavillon Landry in Moncton, N.B., we are fortunate to be surrounded by talented and committed Great People who help residents stay active, engaged, and connected. Recreation is not just an activity. It’s something many residents look forward to and rely on to feel happy, healthy, and fulfilled.
Included in those Great People is Shawna Beaupré, Recreation Coordinator at Pavillon Landry. Shawna has always loved making a positive difference in people’s lives, and through therapeutic recreation, she has found a way to do so every day.
Shawna’s daily tasks include planning and adjusting programs based on resident abilities, socializing through one-on-one conversations and group activities, and encouraging residents to have fun and be active. She believes recreation plays a key role in residents’ physical, emotional, and social wellbeing and strives to include each resident in her activities.
Getting to know each resident one-on-one is an important aspect of Shawna’s role. Learning their individual needs, interests, past experiences, and goals allows Shawna to make modifications and offer catered activities that are meaningful, accessible, and enjoyable for all residents.
Recreation has a strong impact on the quality of life, giving residents something to look forward to each day and keeping them active and socially connected. She notices that even the small activities she leads can brighten someone’s day.
This focus on purposeful engagement is a holistic approach designed to support residents’ overall wellbeing. Our program offers a rich variety of activities, all tailored to help residents live life to the fullest.
Shawna experiences rewarding moments every day and with her patience, compassion, and creativity, she makes a lasting impact on the quality of life of residents. She strives for the moments in her career where residents are laughing, smiling, or joining in when they typically sit aside. We celebrate Shawna and all our therapeutic recreation team members for their commitment to enhancing resident lives every day.
