Kiknu
Kiknu, meaning “our home”, is Nova Scotia’s first licensed
nursing home on a First Nations Community.
It is home to 48 community elders and seniors who will continue to be
surrounded by Mi’kmaq culture and traditions.
Each neighbourhood includes 16 suites – with their own private bathroom, a nursing station, a dining room and access to secure outdoor spaces. Each suite is furnished and has a safety call system. Community elders and seniors are welcome to personalize their space and there is a curio cabinet outside each room for them to display personal items.

Recreation
Wellness is more than just physical activity. We focus on a holistic approach to being well, which includes six dimensions of wellness: physical, intellectual, social, vocational, emotional and spiritual. The recreation team members get to know each resident and design activities to suit their hobbies and interests.
The front lobby of Kiknu includes a clerestory supported by seven poles, to represent the seven traditional Mi’kmaq districts in this region. A healing circle has been incorporated with lots of room for ceremonial activities.
Our culinary commitment
Variety, choice, presentation, taste and nutrition are at the heart of every meal.
Meals and menu items, including traditional dishes and nutritious snacks will be prepared on site at Kiknu by the culinary team members and served in the dining area.
