COVID-19 Update – January 27, 5 p.m.: Outbreak at Parkland Saint John

The following is an update related to an outbreak of COVID-19 at our Parkland Saint John community.
We are sad to report that yesterday, we experienced another loss at Lily Court. One of our beloved residents who had tested positive for COVID-19 has passed away.

“This is a heartbreaking loss for everyone at Lily Court,” said Derek Green, Vice President, New Brunswick Operations. “We join our resident’s family and friends in their grief and offer our sincerest condolences for the loss of their loved one.”

We are sharing this news following conversations and with the permission of the resident’s family to honour their life and because they were a member of our Lily Court community during this difficult time. Our reporting of this information is not a comment on the status of the resident’s illness or their cause of death.

Personal calls were made to each Lily Court family today and we have shared an update with our internal community of residents, families, and employees at Parkland Saint John. We will also hold virtual calls with residents and families of Tucker Hall to allow them to spend time together with members of our team.

We have now received all test result numbers back from Public Health for Monday’s testing round, and no new cases have been identified. The current number of active cases is one resident and two employees.

We have been in direct contact with Lily Court families individually by phone to make them aware of this news and we plan to spend time with them together on a virtual call to listen and maintain our open dialogue.

Reporting on COVID-19
Reporting on whether a resident has passed due to COVID-19 is sometimes complicated because we need to work with multiple healthcare partners. Communicating openly with our residents, families and employees is a priority at Shannex and we understand that the delay in communicating the details may create some confusion, and we apologize for this.

We know that these are difficult times for everyone, and we wholeheartedly believe that the life of every resident who passes away in our communities should be honoured. It has been difficult for families, and for our team members, to appropriately celebrate the lives of the residents. It is our intention to pay tribute to those we have lost at some point in the future, in some way that is appropriate.

We have received all results back from Public Health for resident and employee testing conducted on Thursday, January 21 at Tucker Hall. Since our last update, no new cases were identified.
