Parkland on the Glen
The following is an update related to the COVID-19 outbreak at our Parkland on the Glen community.
Today, we are sad to report that a resident who had previously tested positive for COVID-19, has passed away in hospital.

“We offer our sincerest condolences to the resident’s loved ones at this difficult time,”  said Lisa Tracz, General Manager at Parkland on the Glen. “It is never easy to lose a loved one, but during this pandemic with so many restrictions in place, it is especially difficult. COVID-19 Update: Ontario as of December 28, 12:30p.m.:

The following is an update related to our two Ontario communities.

Parkland on the Glen
**CORRECTION: On December 28 at 12:30 p.m. we inaccurately reported on the number of active cases at Parkland on the Glen. On December 28 there were three active cases (two residents and one employee). Fifteen resident and eight employee cases are considered resolved.**

A person with COVID-19 is considered to have a resolved infection once they reach a point where their infection is no longer considered active. Once they are at the resolved stage, they are no longer contagious to others. The person may still have unresolved symptoms at this point but are no longer actively infected with the COVID-19 virus. A person who is considered resolved may still remain on isolation for a period of time as they continue to heal from their course of illness.

A case is typically considered resolved 10 days after a positive test result or 10 days after symptoms of COVID-19 start (whichever is longer).

A person is considered to have an active case of COVID-19 once they have tested positive for the illness and have not passed the infectious stage. They may or may not have symptoms of COVID-19.

The following is an update related to an outbreak of COVID-19 at our Parkland on the Glen community.
Currently, there is one active employee case. As of today, 17 resident cases are considered resolved and eight employee cases are resolved. At this time residents continue to isolate in their suites and their health status is being monitored. We are working with public health, our occupational health and safety team and our infection control specialist to determine when it will be safe to reduce restrictions in the building.

Most of the results from last week’s testing are in and all are negative; however, we are waiting for a few resident and employee tests. We are working with public health to determine when the next round of testing will take place. Retesting is an important part of our COVID-19 response as it helps identify cases of COVID-19 in residents or employees who are not experiencing symptoms.

Resident physical and mental health are an important aspect of overall wellness, especially during our COIVD-19 response. We have established wellness lounges in three distinct areas inside Parkland on the Glen for residents to maintain their health and wellbeing. Following specific infection control protocols, five residents can attend at a time for 30 minutes. The aim of the wellness lounge is to assist with the mental and physical impacts of isolation in a safe and effective manner through engaging in a variety of appropriate activities. Before attending, residents undergo screening, sanitize their hands before entering the lounge, wear their mask the entire time, and maintain a minimum of 6ft distance from others. Staff are assigned to manage each wellness lounge to ensure adherence to public health guidelines and after each session the lounge areas are fully disinfected.

We appreciate the dedication our employees have shown in implementing and adhering to strict infection control practices. We also appreciate the cooperation our residents and families have shown during this challenging time, and we are grateful for the guidance and support we have received from public health.

Parkland on Eglinton West
At this time, we do not have any cases of COVID-19 at the Parkland on Eglinton West campus.
