Shannex Losier Hall Resident is First New Brunswicker to Receive Vaccine

Earlier today, Mrs. Pauline Gauvin, an 84-year-old resident of Losier Hall in Miramichi became the first New Brunswicker to receive the COVID-19 vaccination at a clinic located inside the Miramichi Regional Hospital.

“This is a big day,” said Mrs. Gauvin. “I’m happy to be the first one to receive this vaccine but I’m also glad that other residents and employees are receiving it too. Hopefully, it will protect me and the other residents of Losier Hall so no one gets the virus.”

Last week the Province announced the first supply of the vaccine would arrive in Miramichi and that residents and employees of long-term care would be among the first to receive it. Our nursing homes and retirement living community in Miramichi immediately began working with Public Health and other community partners on the logistics needed to safely transport every resident to the hospital where the vaccine will be administered.

Kelley, feels she’s making the right decision. “As a frontline healthcare worker, it gives me peace of mind knowing that the vaccine is an added layer of protection to help keep the most vulnerable in our community safe,” she says.

In addition to Mrs. Gauvin and Kelley, there will be more than 350 additional residents and employees from Losier Hall, Bridgeview Hall and Parkland on the River in Miramichi receiving the vaccine this weekend.

Each person will get a total of two doses of the vaccine. The first dose is administered today and tomorrow, and the second dose will be administered three weeks later.
