It’s this time of year again and we’re excited to announce the recipients of our Great People Give donations. As part of community giving program Shannex Cares, four times per year, we ask our Great People to nominate and vote for organizations or groups that are doing great work supporting seniors and making a difference in the community. Inspired by our Great People to help create visible and meaningful opportunities for elders to be seen, heard and valued for their wisdom and talents, Shannex Cares enables us to give back and recognize elder allies in the community.
The following organizations will each be receiving a Great People Give donation of $1,000:
- Nova Scotia: The Reserve Mines Seniors and Pensioners Club
- New Brunswick: The Salvation Army Community and Family Services
- Ontario: Hospice Mississauga
The recipients have received the good news that they are being awarded a Great People Give donation and they really appreciate your support.
About the recipients:
The Reserve Mines Seniors and Pensioners Club is an organization that has come together to support seniors in this small community during the pandemic. Not only do they volunteer their time to prepare and serve meals three times weekly, they also are mindful of the social, economic, psychological and physical barriers that seniors face, in particular during times of isolation. They are a shoulder to lean on and go above and beyond in all things they do.
The Salvation Army offers programming for seniors and also offers assistance for children, individuals and families in need. This includes support programs and self-help groups, emergency food and clothing, community outreach and day drop-in, children’s programming, referrals advocacy and support, teaching kitchen, Christmas assistance and Income Tax preparation.
Hospice Mississauga offers Mind-Body Medicine series seminars. They not only support individuals at the end of their lives but those around them during difficult times.
