Shannex has officially received a certificate of registration for ISO 50001, making it the first seniors’ living organization in the country to receive this level of certification. This accomplishment was 24 months in the making and made possible through funding provided by Natural Resources Canada and with great support from our team members, residents and families.
While ISO 500001 certification will result in continual energy efficiency, reductions in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and the ability to compare ourselves to national benchmarks, it is also part of the organization’s ongoing prioritization of sustainability in existing operations and new developments.
In March 2023, Shannex launched its new five-year strategic plan and established Environmental Stewardship as one of its five strategic directions with areas of focus that include waste management, water consumption, responsible and sustainable sourcing of materials and goods, environmentally conscious building designs and standards, and growing and supporting residents and team members who are environmental stewards.
As we continue to grow, we are committed to giving back to our communities. We are proud to have made a $10,000 donation to Tree Canada to plant trees in the Atlantic Region this summer.
With a goal to empower every person who lives and works at Shannex to see themselves as a sustainability changemaker, this Earth Day, Shannex encourages each person to take action to make a difference. By working together, we will make a real difference in our own communities and the entire planet.
