John began his LPN journey at Shannex 2 years ago when he started at Arborstone Enhanced Care as a CCA after moving to Canada from The Philippines. When Shannex introduced the LPN pathway he jumped on the opportunity and began his journey to becoming an LPN in Canada. “I really wanted to become a nurse in Canada. It was a challenge a newcomer, as there are differences to what I practiced here compared to what I practiced in the Philippines. The more I challenge myself the more I prove to myself that I capable.”

In his daily work at Arborstone, he applies all our guiding principles of being safe, compassionate, honest and professional. “Being an LPN, you act as a leader in the team and as a role model to residents. With all various health concerns of our residents, you must think on a situational basis with personalized care plans and compassion for everyone.”

His advice to Internationally Educated Nurses is to take the risk and face your fears. He said that while there are communication barriers, the people are so very friendly and everyday is a new challenge for personal growth. John says, “It is a rewarding career – it’s not just a profession it’s a passion. Touching lives everyday make a huge difference.”

John feels Shannex is really involved in employee’s development and a supportive employer to all employees.
