Their efforts range from themed celebrations and wellness initiatives to team appreciation events, enriching daily life at Cedarstone. A standout achievement was the first-ever Carnival Day, featuring accessible games and classic treats that brought everyone together. Since 2019, Graham Conrad has been a dedicated and inspiring volunteer at Parkland at the Lakes, bringing joy and connection to the Memory Care and Enriched Care communities every Friday. He began by leading Trivia and Bingo sessions, with “Trivia with Graham” quickly becoming a beloved weekly highlight. His consistency, patience, and ability to adapt ensure that all residents—regardless of physical or cognitive ability—feel included and engaged. Graham’s commitment and warmth make every session meaningful, as he brings fun, stimulation, and a sense of community to residents through his thoughtful volunteerism.

Parkland at the Gardens are long-time supporters of the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia. With the motivation and advocacy from resident Maureen Banyard, this partnership has been strengthened over recent years. Maureen was recognized by the Halifax Regional Municipality with a Volunteer of the Year Award in 2024 for her volunteer work with the Mental Health Foundation and her advocacy to end the stigma with mental health. 

Annually, Parkland at the Gardens and the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia hosts the Celebration of Wreaths raising critical funds while bringing people of all ages together to raise awareness of mental wellness, mental illness, and addictions.

Community Partner with YWCA & Volunteer | Caritas Residence

Rachelle Mombourquette is an exceptional community partner whose warmth, creativity, and compassion have made a lasting impact on the residents at Caritas Residence. Through her role with the YMCA and her personal volunteer efforts, she consistently enhances the lives of residents by offering both practical support and meaningful connection. From organizing outings and sharing lunch with those who may feel alone, to leading thoughtful events like Santa for Seniors and PJ Movie Nights, Rachelle brings joy and comfort to the community. Debbie’s personal touch helps combat loneliness and builds meaningful relationships with those she serves. When recruiting LPNs became a significant challenge for the organization, this team got creative and developed a solution that has led to filling almost all of the open LPN positions in our existing operations and enabled us to have LPNs hired in new operations in the Halifax metro area on time, meeting our commitments to the Province and our new residents! The program is now in its fourth cohort with several more planned and recently won the Trailblazer Award at the Nursing Homes of Nova Scotia Association awards.
