CCA Program at Kiknu

Six-Month CCA Program Starting April 22
Ready to start your career as a Continuing Care Assistant (CCA)? The six-month CCA Program at Kiknu will provide eligible applicants with an exciting opportunity to begin a new and rewarding career. CCAs are essential members of our care team, and we need more.
With support from the Province of Nova Scotia, students will receive free tuition and textbooks, along with a wage subsidy for the duration of the program. Island Career Academy is excited to be providing this training on site, here at Kiknu in our beautiful classroom space. Upon successful completion of the program, all new graduates will receive a job offer to join the team.

About the Program
From day one, students will be hired in order to receive a full-time minimum wage subsidy for the duration of the program. Learning will take place in the classroom at Kiknu with required hours of hands-on training. Students will benefit from a CCA curriculum, achieving the same learning outcomes as the traditional program but in a shorter time. Successful graduates will receive a guaranteed offer of full-time employment including a two-year return of service agreement.
Program Eligibility
Investing in yourself and your future is exciting, and our team is here to help make it easier! To be a candidate for the program, you must:
- Have Grade 12, GED, or minimum Wonderlic (13) cut score
- Provide a clear Criminal Record, Vulnerable Sector and Child Abuse Registry Check
- Eligible to work in Canada (must be a Permanent Resident to qualify for financial support)
- Have a valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License
- Agree to participate in a Physiotherapy Assessment
- Have an interest in being a CCA and providing personal care and assistance to residents living in long term care.
A Day in the Life of a CCA
At Kiknu, skilled and compassionate CCAs work with purpose as a critical part of our care team providing personal care and assistance with activities of daily living. This can include:
- Dressing and bathing
- Eating and feeding
- Walking
- Moving into and out of a bed or chair
- Checking vitals, administering topical medications and ear/eye drops
- Supporting recreation and site activities
While taking a resident-directed approach to care, CCAs are considered an extension of a resident’s family, spending quality time each day in conversations and activities that build trust, joy and lifelong connection.

Successful candidates will receive a conditional offer of full-time employment upon completion of the program.
