COVID-19 Update: March 30, 2020 – An update to our valued community

To our valued community,

As we begin another week during this unprecedented time, I want to provide an update on how we are preparing for the days ahead.

The COVID-19 pandemic is a universal experience, but for residents in our communities, their families and those of us who provide care and service to these vulnerable individuals, it is particularly unsettling.

For weeks, we have worked around the clock implementing extensive measures to protect our communities. We are not alone. In every region with a Shannex, Parkland or Faubourg community, our sector partners are facing the same challenges and stepping up to take the necessary precautions.

This past weekend in Nova Scotia, one of our locations, Lewis Hall in Dartmouth, NS, was confronted with the reality that COVID-19 is at our doorstep. I am pleased to say that team members at Lewis Hall responded appropriately. Because they followed our advanced screening protocols, we were notified as soon as possible and personnel on site took all appropriate infection prevention and control steps to protect residents and themselves.

The results of COVID-19 testing on Lewis Hall residents conducted on Saturday at the direction of Public Health are negative. This is good news and, although we are optimistic, we are not prepared to take any chances. Residents will be kept under observation and monitored for symptoms until they have passed the 14-day window since last contact. This level of continued vigilance will help protect the health and safety of residents and team members and is something we all must practice in the coming days.

We ask everyone to continue to follow the clear advice being given by Public Health experts, including social distancing, handwashing and monitoring yourself for symptoms. Thank you to our valued team members for complying with these important measures. Today, I shared a message with all employees that provides valuable additional information about the critical importance of continued monitoring and compliance in helping us protect our communities.

In addition, we continue to require all team members to adhere to our advance screening protocols and contact their assigned Occupational Health and Wellness team member with questions or to report symptoms.

To our Great People who continue to come to work each day to care for those who depend on you, I want to express my gratitude for your commitment.
