A group of incredible people from Miramichi made a big impact in their community by participating in the Coldest Night of the Year (CNOY) fundraising walk. Team Shannex Miramichi raised an impressive $2,400 to support Miramichi Housing Solutions Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to providing temporary housing for those in crisis.

The team, which included members from both Bridgeview Hall and Losier Hall, showed the true power of collaboration and teamwork. Team Captain Kelsey Gill, along with Laurine Bateman, Joanne Hardy, Jeff Swaine, Kortney Patriquin, Amanda Quinn, Kia Lynch, and Leslie Clark, all came together for an important cause. They raised funds over February through personal and family donations, a bake sale and through the Shannex Cares Great People Give program

Miramichi Housing Solutions Inc. plays a vital role in supporting individuals facing homelessness or crisis, offering temporary housing and assistance to help people get back on their feet. The generosity and effort of Team Shannex are making a real difference in the lives of many.

As Team Captain Kelsey Gill shared, “The management team in Miramichi is always looking for ways to get involved within the community.” She went on to explain how she became aware of CNOY, saying, “I have a family member who works for Miramichi Housing Solutions Inc. When I saw his post about CNOY, I thought it would be a great initiative to get involved with; I personally previously helped raise money for Miramichi Housing Solutions Inc. through a community fun run that I put on every year.”

Kelsey also touched on the important issue of stigma surrounding homelessness: “I think there is often a stigma when people think of organizations and events such as Miramichi Housing Solutions Inc. and CNOY. People often view homelessness and its associated factors in a very negative light. As an organization with a large social reach, I think it is important to speak up on these issues and be a voice or a lending hand to those who are struggling. Now more than ever, we are seeing people, including the elderly, struggle with the cost of living and staying in their homes. As a team, it felt good to give back and come together outside of work for a worthy cause.”

Moving forward, the team is excited to start fundraising for the Alzheimer’s Society and their annual walk in May.

The Shannex team’s contribution proves that even small acts of kindness can add up to something truly meaningful.

Great People give is a Shannex Cares program that encourages team members to nominate charitable organizations in their communities for a one-time donation.
