Mary Ryan launches her book entitled: Wading into Life’s Changing Tides, a resident’s experience of living in a long-term care facility.

In the heart of Fredericton, at Thomas Hall, Nursing Home, resides Mrs. Mary Ryan, a remarkable soul of 89 years young. With a lifetime of stories etched into her memory, she embarked on a new chapter, not merely for herself but for all who would listen.

Mrs. Ryan is not new to writing, having published a number of books already. As a former teacher, we can say she has a way with words. Her eloquent writing style keeps everyone wanting to read more.

On January 29th, Mrs. Ryan unveiled her project titled “Navigating Life’s Changing Tides.” The book launch took place at the Old Government House with more than 60 distinguished guests, including the Honourable Brenda Murphy, Lieutenant Governor of New Brunswick and Honourable Jill Green, Minister of Social Development.

The title captures the essence of the book: her experiences living at Thomas Hall Nursing Home and her reflections on the guiding principles outlined in the Blue Book, which serves as a compass for the Great People of Shannex.

“Grasping everything available, especially what is available in the Blue Book, I received so many insights into the vision and values of what it would be like to find a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow, by living in any Shannex building,” said Mary in Wading into Life’s Changing Tides.

Mrs. Ryan hopes her book will inspire those awaiting a place in a nursing home and give them a glimpse of what to expect from nursing home living.

This important project would not have been made possible without the support from the team at Thomas Hall. A special thank you goes to Caroline McLaughlin, Recreation Coordinator at Thomas Hall for coordinating the book launch event.

“As coordinator of Recreation and Chair of Resident Council of Thomas Hall, I have noticed in my more than 10 years of service the vigor of the residents and their thoughts and opinions. Mary’s experience and literary expertised is captured in this must-read book,” said Caroline.
