At Shannex, our commitment to excellence extends beyond providing exceptional care to our residents—it encompasses nurturing and empowering our dedicated team of caregivers, the Great People of Shannex.

One shining example of this commitment is our Continuing Care Assistant (CCA) Mentorship Workshop. This Spring, sixteen Shannex CCAs stepped forward to participate in this initiative in Fredericton, New Brunswick.

The four-hour workshop was facilitated by mentors, LPN Morgan Lambert and Program and Partnership Coordinator, Rob Burnett, and served as a cornerstone in the professional development journey of our existing CCAs.

“Not only are these mentors stepping up to mentor students that come to our facilities, but also to mentor new hires who need orientation. This will provide our new employees with the support they need when starting at our Shannex homes in the Fredericton region,” said Morgan.

This holistic approach to mentorship not only facilitates the professional growth of our employees but also cultivates a culture of support and collaboration within our community.

The objectives of the CCA Mentorship Program were to equip mentors with the necessary tools and knowledge to support incoming CCAs, and to foster an environment conducive to learning and growth. Through a comprehensive curriculum, mentors were trained in many facets of mentorship, including understanding different learning and communication styles and delivering constructive feedback.

One of the hallmarks of our program is the integration of real-world case study scenarios that provide mentors with practical experience in navigating the complexities of caregiver mentorship. By immersing themselves in these scenarios, mentors gained invaluable insights into the nuances of mentor-mentee dynamics, enabling them to forge strong and meaningful relationships with those they guide.

The impact of this program extends beyond its participants. Thirteen Work and Learn CCA Fredericton students have been paired with trained mentors, embarking on a four-week mentorship experience.

Looking ahead, we are thrilled to announce the expansion of our CCA Mentorship Program into the Saint John Region next month.

Through mentorship, we not only impart knowledge and skills but also instill a sense of purpose and camaraderie that defines the fabric of our Shannex community. Because at Shannex, greatness isn’t just a destination—it’s a journey, and Great People truly do grow here.
